Cyber Security Challenge UK Survey

The Cyber Security Challenge UK is launching a survey in conjunction with our colleagues at SANS to analyse the cyber security job market in the UK in order to: identify the number and type of existing jobs, understand skills shortages and recruitment difficulties, clarify the increasing need for cyber security specialists, spot the 20 coolest jobs, define starter jobs and career development paths, as well as link jobs and roles to skill sets.
If you work in Cyber Security OUTSIDE THE USA, please spare a few minutes to complete the survey before 24th March at www.surveymethods.com/EndUser.aspx?CFEB8795CB8E9394
If you are a member of a company or organisation with many other people working in cyber security related jobs then please will you also send the survey to them and encourage them to complete it. The results of this survey will help focus efforts on the needs of business and Government, and the resultant analysis will be widely shared. This will contribute to the ongoing work to build cyber security as a profession, and the results should be available at InfoSec at the end of April.
Hacker behind Comcast attack pleads guilty
Christopher Allen Lewis, also known as EBK, a 20 year old from Delaware, has pleaded guilty in a trial on Wednesday for his role in the attack on Comcast.net.
The attack that occurred in 2008, took down the sites homepage and email service for several hours.
Lewis also pleaded guilty to conspiring in another attack on the corporations website due to be executed on May 21st. He faces 5 years in prison, 3 years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
Part of a hacker group known as Kryogeniks, Lewis worked alongside two others, James Black and Michael Nebel who are awaiting court summons.
Google hack update
Since the last story on the Google hack, the investigation has developed.
The US claims to have identified the author of the attack and believe it to be a Chinese freelance security consultant who wrote the code and posted it on a forum claiming it was a project he was working on.
The search for the source of the attack led investigators to two Chinese schools that both deny any participation in the attack.
Despite the threats to China, Google has yet to stop censorship of its services within the nation.
West-Midlands Digital Data Company nets £350,000 for new Certified Data Erasure service
Disklabs, based in Tamworth, has begun offering a new On-Site Certified Data Erasure service in an attempt to draw in new business. Included in this service is the re-manufacturing and reselling of storage systems into the second user market.
The service is already in high demand and three global corporates are already taking advantage of the brand new opportunity.
A spokesman from Disklabs believes that this initial interest is just the start of things to come.
Google Executives found guilty of privacy violations
A court in Milan convicted three executives of search engine giant, Google, on 24th February.
The three were found guilty of failing to stop the online submission of a video that contradicts the Italian privacy code. The three executives, Peter Fleischer, David Drummond and George De Los Reyes, are set to appeal this decision and a fourth defendant has already been acquitted.
This case is believed to be the first of its kind in which a chief privacy official has been convicted for the actions of his company.
Wiretapping site taken down and then reinstated by Microsoft
Cryptome.com, a site that recently published a paper detailing how Microsoft goes about collecting information from their users and what information is collected, was shut down after Microsoft launched a legal battle over the publication.
Its hosting provider Network Solutions locked the domain, in order that the information did not get leaked, although it later appeared on Wikileaks.
Since then, the author of the information, an employee of Microsoft, has asked Network Solutions that the site be reinstated and the copyright complaint be rescinded.
